A PDF list of shell extensions I recommend to bring a sane user interface/experience to Gnome Shell. I have a screenshot of what it looks like and also another in overview mode. It comes to about 22 active extensions! You can skip the Looking Glass extension since it is mostly for extension and theme developers. Some just provide minor tweaks that enhance the GUI while others provide major missing functionality, such as a taskbar and workspace switcher for the panel. Give them a try. I have tested them for compatibility on a 64-bit Nvidia system. Get them all at the Gnome Shell Extensions site.
